Dennis Conner is the most recognized name in the modern history of the America’s Cup.
From 1987 through to 2003, Dennis Conner was skipper of the celebrated Stars & Stripes yachts. Within the yachting community, Conner is most famous for fundamentally changing the America’s Cup, and racing in general, from an amateur to professional status. These accomplishments led to the nickname “Mister America’s Cup”.
Our two competition-tested yachts, Stars & Stripes / USA 34, and Abracadabra / USA 54, were originally purchased from Dennis Conner and moved from America’s Cup Harbor in San Diego to the Broadway Pier, under the flag of a new sailing venture, Next Level Sailing.
Today Dennis still races very actively on his own personal Farr 60, Stars & Stripes both in San Diego and along the California and Mexico coast. Dennis’s most recent achievement among many was a hat trick triple victory in the 64th Newport to Ensenada International Yacht Race concluded April 17, 2011: first monohull to finish, first in the Maxi class and first in the entire fleet on corrected handicap time. The latter won him the race’s biggest prize—the President of USA Trophy—based on how well boats are sailed to their rated potential.
