Known for its booze induced arrests and its "too punk rock" attitude, The Real World San Diego breathed
some light and fun back in to the series after The Real World Paris had some of the lowest numbers in the shows
ratings history.
With Jamie, Cameran, Randy, Frankie, Brad, Robin, Jacquese and Charlie cruising the streets of the Gaslamp or PB,
you know there is going to be trouble. Relive Season 14, of The Real World.
In the early summer of 2003,
producers of the MTV hit reality show, "The Real World" were searching the city of San Diego for the
perfect location to set the 14th season. While there were many available mansions dotting the Pacific Coast, they
all seemed too "unreal" for a group of 18-24 year olds. That was until one day when a location scout
spotted a former restaurant nessled at the end of Driscoll's Wharf in Point Loma. This season, the castmembers
worked on an America's Cup Boat, giving tours of the San Diego bay.
The building had everything
the producers needed: Oceanfront property and plenty of space to create a youthful living space. In July of 2003,
workers began remodeling the former "Blue Crab Restaurant". Many changes were made to the buildings interior.
Walls were torn down on the second level to create an open main living space for the seven strangers, while walls
were added to divide up the main dining room on the first floor into additional cast space and production offices.
The building served as home to the Real World cast from August through December of 2003.The latest Real World House
was a 10,328 sq. ft. building in Point Loma that was formerly occupied by The Blue Crab restaurant. The Blue Crab
went out of business in January 2002.
